| 1/2 cup | shortening | 125 mL |
| 1/2 cup | brown sugar | 125 mL |
| 1/2 cup | hot water or sour milk | 125 mL |
| 1 tbsp | vinegar | 15 mL |
| 1/2 cup | molasses | 125 mL |
| 1 | egg, beaten | 1 |
| 2-1/2 cups | cake flour | 600 mL |
| 1/2 tsp | salt | 2 mL |
| 1/4 tsp | soda | 1 mL |
| 1 tsp | baking powder | 5 mL |
| 1/2 tsp | ginger | 2 mL |
| 1/2 tsp | cloves | 2 mL |
| 1 tsp | cinnamon | 5 mL |
| 1/2 cup | raisins | 125 mL |
Cream shortening with sifted brown sugar.
Add hot water or sour milk and vinegar to the molasses. Combine with shortening and sugar. Add beaten egg.
Sift dry ingredients and add. Chop raisins and add.
Drop dough from teaspoon onto a greased cookie sheet.
Bake in a moderate oven at 350°F/180°C for 15 minutes.
A hint of molasses makes these cookies very special.
