| 5 tbsp | all purpose flour | 75 mL |
| 1-1/2 lb | potatoes, pared and grated | 675 g |
| 1 | small onion, grated | 1 |
| 1 | egg, unbeaten | 1 |
| 1-1/2 tsp | salt | 7 mL |
| 1/8 tsp | pepper | 0.5 mL |
| 1/2 tsp | thyme | 3 mL |
Combine ingredients in the order given. Beat lightly to blend. Drop from a spoon into hot oil and fry until edges curl and desired shade of brown is reached. Fry on both sides and drain on paper towels.
Serve hot with applesauce or with pot roast.
