| 2 lb | beef round steak, cut into 1-in/2-cm cubes | 1 kg |
| 1 cup | onion, sliced | 250 mL |
| 1 | clove garlic, minced | 1 |
| 3/4 cup | ketchup | 175 mL |
| 2 tbsp | Worcestershire sauce | 30 mL |
| 1 tbsp | brown sugar | 15 mL |
| 1 tsp | salt (or to taste) | 5 mL |
| 2 tsp | paprika | 10 mL |
| 1/2 tsp | dry mustard | 2 mL |
| 1-1/2 cups | water | 350 mL |
| 2 tbsp | flour | 30 mL |
| 1/4 cup | water | 60 mL |

Melt shortening in large skillet. Add beef, onion and garlic. Cook and stir until meat is brown and onion is tender. Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, salt, paprika, mustard and water.
Cover and simmer for 2 to 2-1/2 hours.
Blend flour and water, stir gradually into mixture. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Boil and stir 1 minute.
Serve over hot cooked noodles.
