| 1/4 lb | butter | 115 g |
| 1 cup | sugar | 250 mL |
| 2 | eggs, beaten | 2 |
| 2 | squares bittersweet chocolate, melted | 2 |
| 2/3 cup | all purpose flour | 150 mL |
| pinch of salt | ||
| 1/4 cup | milk | 60 mL |
| 1 cup | chopped nuts | 250 mL |
| 1 tsp | vanilla | 5 mL |
| Icing | ||
| 1 tbsp | butter | 15 mL |
| 1 tsp | vanilla | 5 mL |
| 2 | squares bittersweet chocolate, melted | 2 |
| 1 cup | icing sugar | 250 mL |
| 1 | egg | 1 |
Cream butter and sugar, add eggs and melted chocolate. Sift the dry ingredients and add alternately with milk. Add nuts and vanilla.
Bake in a greased and floured square pan (8-x8-in /20-x20-cm) at 350°F/180°C for about 30 minutes.
Mix icing ingredients, and spread on cake. Cut in squares.
