Ingredients

Meatballs
1 lb ground cooked ham 450 g
1 lb ground pork 450 g
2 cups dry bread crumbs 500 mL
1 cup milk 250 mL
2 eggs (beaten) 2
1 tsp salt 5 mL
Sauce
1 1/2 cups brown sugar 350 mL
3/4 cup white vinegar 175 mL
3/4 cup water 175 mL
1 tbsp dry mustard 15 mL

Directions

Combine ham, pork, bread crumbs, milk, eggs and salt. Mix thoroughly. Shape into 1-in/2-cm balls and place in shallow baking dish.

Mix ingredients for sauce together and pour over meatballs.

Bake uncovered at 325°F/160°C for 40 minutes. Baste often with sauce.

To serve, keep meatballs hot in syrup in chafing dish. Fasten slice of sweet gherkin to each ball with pick.
